Jeremy Pearson

After my Ph.D. in Cambridge (experimental pathology: lipid metabolism in the arterial wall) and a Research Fellowship in Oxford (control of lipid metabolism in cultured vascular cells), my research has consistently been focused on the responses of vascular endothelial cells to vasoactive and inflammatory mediators, primarily using in vitro techniques and with a particular interest in intracellular signalling pathways. I led research teams at the Babraham Institute (1970-1983), at the MRC Clinical Research Centre in Harrow (1983-1991) where from 1988 I was head of the Section of Vascular Biology, and since 1991 as Professor of Vascular Biology (the first in the U.K.) at King's College London (and Director of the Centre for Cardiovascular Biology and Medicine from 2000-2004). I served on the Editorial Board of the Biochemical Journal from 1993-2000 (Deputy Chairman 1996-2000). I was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2004.
