Elizabeth Shephard
Elizabeth Shephard is Professor of Molecular Biology at University College London. She graduated with a degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. After a 3 year period at the University of Florida, Gainesville, U.S.A. she studied for a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at University College London. Her research interests include the mechansims that control the expression of genes that encode drug-metabolizing enzymes such as the cytochromes P450 and flavin-containing monooxygenases (FMOs); the biochemical consequences of genetic variation in FMO genes for drug and foreign chemical response (pharmacogenetics); and she has a particular interest in the genetic disorder trimethylaminuria. She has a great interest in teaching delivery and has developed a number of interactive teaching exercises to improve student learning. She is the co-author of three student textbooks in the field of cell and molecular biology.
